Volunteer
We are looking for volunteers who are patient, empathetic, and strong communicators, and who are open to learning and receiving guidance from our clinical staff.
Opportunities include:
- Facilitating in-person groups
- Assisting with virtual Zoom groups
- Supporting administrative tasks and community outreach
Volunteers must be 18 or older to work directly with members (other opportunities may be available for ages 16+). A weekly Zoom volunteer meeting on Thursdays from 9:00–10:00 a.m. is part of the role.
Join the board
Our Board of Directors is highly active and engaged. In addition to providing governance and strategic support, many board members choose to volunteer their time directly with our members, including participating in one-on-one or group experiences. This hands-on involvement helps board members stay closely connected to our mission and the people we serve.
The Board meets every other month, and members are expected to attend board meetings, join a committee, and provide fiscal and strategic oversite for the organization. Board service at Friends of Aphasia is collaborative, mission-driven, and deeply impactful.
Become a member
Becoming a Member means you have access to FOA’s in-person and online group sessions. Sessions are designed to maximize recovery of communication, allowing members to develop and practice communication techniques in a stimulating, yet accepting, environment.
Members also have access to FOA’s education forums, community outings, and family & caregiver support groups.
Prior to participation in the program, new members must be scheduled for a comprehensive evaluation. We also ask potential new members to come for a trial day to experience a session prior to registering for the term.
Become a Sponsor
Your sponsorship is not just a marketing opportunity; it is a direct investment in developing robust programs, community support teams, technology resources, outreach programs, and community education to give real hope to those struggling to speak, understand, read, and write.
