Tucson-based singer/songwriter, Gabrielle Pietrangelo was joined by John Coinman when she performed at FOA this month. She won the prestigious John Lennon Summer Songwriting Contest in 2023 for her song “Summer Losers”.
This is one of several musicians and musical groups that John Coinman, Blair Foreward, and Donna Mabry have organized for FOA.
There has been plenty of research done in using music to treat aphasia. One theory is that because music crosses the hemispheres of the brain, it creates new neural pathways for language. In addition, music is ripe with repetition and patterns, two things that aid memory.
